Touchdown for Diabetes 2010 was a huge success, with over $60,000 raised to provide diabetes care for the uninsured in the Greater Kalamazoo Area! Proceeds totaling 1.3 million dollars have been raised for diabetes care by Cole Century and Cole Community Solutions over the past 14 years. An annual event, this is the primary fundraiser for quality medical care, education, medicines, and medical supplies provided to local uninsured patients with Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes. The Borgess Diabetes Center is the new clinic that provides this care to the Kalamazoo community. Diabetes is the sixth leading cause of premature death in the United States. An estimated 22,000 people in Kalamazoo have diabetes; more than one in eight county residents live below the federal poverty level. Without proper treatment, diabetes leads to heart disease, blindness, kidney failure and other very serious complications. The Touchdown for Diabetes event includes a tailgate dinner, silent auction, 50/50 raffle, door prizes and a 1 in 500 chance to win the grand prize of $20,000 cash. To help tackle diabetes by purchasing a ticket or becoming a sponsor, please contact Linda West or call (269)323-3200. See the 2011 Sponsors |
